A Dickinson man was sentenced to federal prison after he was convicted of child pornography charges.

Richard Carl Green, 46, was sentenced Tuesday to three years and five months in prison for possession of child pornography, federal authorities said.

Green, who pleaded guilty Dec. 17, also must serve a life term of supervised release during which he must comply with special conditions designed to limit his access to the Internet and to protect children.

He also must register as sex offender.

Green’s conviction was the result of an investigation that began after federal agents discovered Green had paid for a subscription to a child pornography Web site, officials said.

Authorities said federal agents searching the server hosting the Web site discovered two e-mails from Green stating he had not received his purchase and asking its operators to check on it.

A reply e-mail stated that Green had been billed $79.99 and included a URL to access the Web site.

Agents searched Green’s Dickinson home and his Houston business March 19, 2009 and found child pornography on his computers. More than 1,000 images and 127 videos containing child pornography were discovered.

Education news from the Houston Chronicle and the AP…

TYLER — A substitute teacher in east Texas must serve 30 months in federal prison over child pornography found in his education materials.

U.S. Attorney John Bales on Wednesday announced the sentence for 66-year-old Robert Carl Sampson of Grapeland.

Sampson in October pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography. He was sentenced Tuesday in Tyler and also was ordered to forfeit his personal computer.

Prosecutors say Sampson in February 2008 was a substitute teacher for the Palestine Independent School District.

Investigators say Sampson took several boxes of teaching aids to a fellow instructor, who discovered discs containing child pornography in the materials.

A former La Porte ISD board member was arrested Wednesday on four charges of possession of child pornography, prosecutors said.

Larry Donald Cox, 66, is accused of downloading pornographic computer images of pubescent and prepubescent children.

After investigators with Houston Metro Internet Crimes against Children Task Force found several explicit videos on computers at Cox’s La Porte home, he told police that he was afraid to be with his grandchildren because he could not control himself, court documents show.

Calls to Cox’s home were not returned.

In a prepared statement Wednesday, La Porte School Superintendent Lloyd Graham said the board and administration were shocked by the allegations and charges.

“Actions by individuals leading to such charges are not indicative of the man that we knew,” Graham said.

The third-degree felony carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison.

Cox, a former professional football player, resigned Jan. 6 from the school board for “personal reasons.” He served eight months of his second two-year term, having been re-elected last May. In a special meeting Jan. 11, former board president Gene Horn was appointed to serve until the May 8 election.

According to the district, Cox worked in La Porte schools from 1974 to 2002, serving as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal. He was a defensive tackle for the Denver Broncos for four years in the mid-1960s.

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – Police in suburban Philadelphia say a man fed up of children playing in his cul-de-sac blared a pornographic soundtrack to chase them off. Irate neighbors told police they could hear the sexually explicit audio a block and a half away.

Police say Michael Buck faces a felony obscenity charge and two misdemeanors for the May 31 stunt at his upscale Phoenixville home.

The 27-year-old Buck has a preliminary hearing scheduled for next month. He doesn’t have a listed telephone number, and his lawyer declined to comment Wednesday.

Detective Tom Goggin says Buck had filed one previous complaint about the neighborhood children. He says the children clearly annoy Buck — but there’s nothing criminal about playing outside.

Once again I extend my thanks to the AP…

TUSTIN, Calif. – Police say a California man donning a bustier and watching porn on a computer in an apartment complex gym was arrested after officers found drugs in his backpack.

Sgt. Todd Bullock says 45-year-old Stephen Murdoch of Tustin was arrested early Tuesday after a security guard spotted him in a workout room that was supposed to be closed and locked.

When police peered inside, they saw Murdoch — also in a miniskirt, fishnet stockings and heels — hiding behind exercise equipment and watching an adult film on a laptop.

Officers noticed Murdoch was sweating profusely and talking quickly. They arrested him on suspicion of drug possession after allegedly finding marijuana, methamphetamine and pipes in his bag.
